Tourism or Culture?
In Mykonos, the diversity of interests makes the same time at the same place seem quite different! It is here where the modern perception that calls for a creative merger of Tourism and Culture finds its application…
Mykonos… as in Tourism
This is one of the most established international destinations. In Mykonos you will see natural beauty, beaches quite unique and different amongst them, an architecture combining the Cycladic simplicity with modern aesthetics, but above all, you will see its people… a “mosaic of human personalities” with diverse origins, likes and dislikes, who form a … new country. The people of Mykonos… the Mykonos of everyone!
How could any destination possibly be called modern if it does not offer something different contributing to the concept? Mykonos “adds” strokes of tradition and history to the contemporary and modern work of art in such a way that the final product exclusively bears its signature in the end!
Mykonos & Delos… as in Culture
In the spirit of Culture, the people of Mykonos remain as authentic as they were back in the 50’s when they first came to be known to the world. Traditions are religiously upheld and many an effort is undertaken by the local organizations and the cultural centers with the local municipal corporation (DEPPAM) and its unforgettable “Dream Nights” at the helm.
Undoubtedly, when it comes to Culture, the central piece of the puzzle is the island of Delos itself. It would not be an overstatement to say that Delos is like no other; the entire island is a floating museum!
At a mere five-minute-sail from Mykonos lies one of the most significant commercial and economic centers of antiquity. It was Delos’ central location in relation to its neighboring islands that gave the name of Cyclades (Greek for encircling) to the most interesting island cluster in the Mediterranean!
Here, the temples and the residences of the Athenians and of Alexander the Great “passed the baton” to the buildings of the Egyptians, the Syracucians, the Palestinians and the Phoenicians.
Interest peaks with the marble lions that stand guard on the island since the 7th century BC! A tour around the island is a trip back in time!
Tourism or Culture? While in Mykonos, dilemmas are a joy because they simply do not exist! Each visit to the island “offers a different anwser”…
You do have the time!
