ARCHAEOLOGICAL TOURISM: The strong presence of the ancient Greek spirit is manifested with important museums and significant archaeological sites. In Samos, at the archaeological site of the Heraion, one meets the antiquity’s largest temple dedicated to goddess Hera. The Walls of Polycrates (6220m long); the Efpalinion Tunnel (1036m long), an engineering miracle of the 6th century BC; the Roman baths and the Ancient Theatre. Moreover, the Archaeological Museum in the town of Samos, with a 5.5-metre-tall Kouros, and the Archaeological Collection at Pythagoreio. In Ikaria, one meets Oinoi, the ancient capital of the island, located in Kampos; Drakanos, on the easternmost part with the Tower, a structure of the Alexandrian era and the Temple dedicated to Tavropolos Artemis, located in Nas; The museums of Agios Kyrikos and Kampos hosting a collection of remarkable finds. In Fournoi, the ancient Quarries located in Petrokopio right next to the sea.
RELIGIOUS TOURISM: impressive monasteries and churches at enchanting locations. In Samos, the most important monasteries are those of Zoodohos Pigi, Agia Zoni, Panagia Vrontiani, Megali Panagia and Timios Stavros. In Ikaria, the monasteries of Evangelistria, Panagia Mounde, Osia Theoktisti and Mavrianou.
THERAPEUTIC TOURISM: In Ikaria and at the site of Thermes, the radioactive hot springs, known for their therapeutic qualities. Today, the hydrothermal units of Spilia and Apollo are in full operation.
ECOTOURISM: Of great importance are the biotopes at Mykali on Samos, where one meets several species of rare birds, as well as the small Mounde dam on Ikaria. Samos is home to 139 species of wild birds and 69 species of butterflies and rare flora such as the wild orchid.
GEOTOURISM: Since old, Samos has held a fascination owed to its rich flora and lush vegetation, also been known for its mammal fossils. The Natural History Museum at Mytilinioi of Samos houses an important collection of fossilized animals that inhabited Samos 6-8 million years ago.
GASTRONOMY: Rich is the array of local products. A prevailing place is held by the Samiot muscatel wine, famous since antiquity; also, top quality olive oil; pure, green olive soap and uniquely tasting Samiot “ouzo”.
AGROTOURISM:Abundant farming led to a flourishing agrotourism. The majority of the farm units are concentrated at Marathocampos of Samos.
