Chrisavgi Bridge, Voio, Kozani, West Macedonia
Located on the crossroads of Central Macedonia, Epirus and Thessaly, the Prefecture of Kozani administratively belongs to the region of Western Macedonia. It is characterized by an impressive complex of verdant mountains, soft valleys with a fascinating succession of landscapes, rich in flora and fauna, and a nature that is impregnated with saffron, the wondrous plant, but also with black lignite that supplies Greece with electric power. A source of life, the torrential waters of river Aliakmon cross the land supplying the artificial lake of Polyfytos while composing a unique landscape.

Kozani Saffron, West Macedonia
Known as the energy centre of Greece with its capital in Ptolemaida, the prefecture nevertheless boasts remarkable alternatives in production and employment, lending it a dynamic profile: the unique plant of saffron, the fur industry in Siatista with its sun-dried wine, the wonderful white marble of Tranovaltos, and the local traditional products (wine, apples, cheese, marmalade and fruit preserves) offer great advantages allowing the prefecture to hold a special place in Greece and the Balkan peninsula.

Escape to unexplored nature…
I admire men who did wonders in a land of contrasts: beautiful mountain settlements with traditional architecture lend a unique colour to the mountain masses of Pieria, Voio, Askio and Vermio. Unexplored natural beauties hiding throughout the prefecture, merging harmoniously with customs, traditions and authentic people who know how to organize festivities and maintain tradition, supporting an innovative agrotourism development in the prefecture.

Escape to important monuments
My glance wanders over ancient monuments, Byzantine churches and monasteries (Servia) adorned with marvelous murals and icons, monuments of popular art, stone bridges crowning river Aliakmon and its tributaries, mansions (Siatista) filled with wonderful murals. I visit the town of Kozani with its Koventareios Municipal Library and Historical – Folklore Museum, I go down to the ancient city of Aiani, the capital of Elimeia the birthplace of the mother of King Phillip II, the father of Alexander the Great, I explore the impressive chestnut-tree forest in Eordaea and I resign myself to enjoying the untouched nature on Vlasti and Voio and the art of skilful masters that were born in this region (Pentalofos).
It is this, the ancient land of the Macedonians that I want to discover!
