Arachova, Fokida, Central Greece
If you get to Gravia go inside the Chani where you will smell the gunpowder of the 19th-century revolutionary Androutsos and his men. From there, take the road to Eptalofo and Polydroso nestled in the shadow of the sacred mountain of Parnassos. Take a break there before you start the climb up to Arachova. If you still have some time and energy for some off-the-beaten-path trekking and original mountain experiences, climb up to Mousounitsa and Athanassios Diakos. It is an unforgettable experience. Then again, if you enter from Efpalio take time to visit the coastal area of Dorida (Monastiraki, Chiliadou, Marathia and Sergoula). Reach all the way to the emerald island of Trizonia the only inhabited island in the Gulf of Corinth – to Tolofona and Erateini. Then take the road up to Lake Mornou and visit the villages of the Municipality of Delfon and the Municipality of Doridas – Lidoriki, Krokyleio, Pentagiou and Artotina. If you are a climbing or trekking aficionado, you can trek the European route E4, cross the gorge of Rekkas and secure an overnight stay at the mountain shelter on Parnassos or Giona or Vardoussia. The climbing grounds of Sykia will give you a great thrill.
