…ski slopes ideal for winter sports-training…
On 19 December 2013, Greece’s highest altitude ski center Voras-Kaimaktsalan reopened its doors to skiers and visitors under new management by the Public Properties Company.
Located at an elevation of 2,000 to 2,480 meters on Voras Mountain, the third highest mountain in Greece, the center enjoys a long ski period from late November to early May. Thanks to its location, it has outstanding snow quality and ski slopes ideal for winter sports-training and technique improvement.
The center also has a snowmaking plant, which provides artificial snow for the ski runs at the Meterizi lift, as well as for the slopes at the ski-schools location and the beginners’ lift on the front of the center’s chalet. This ensures the operation of the ski center during the winter months with obvious benefits for the development of the center and the wider area.
The center has a two-seat chairlift, three tow ski-lifts “plate” and “anchor”, two lifts for children, a snowmaking plant and 12 ski runs of varying difficulty. After two whole years of inaction, the KREMASI lift, Greece’s highest “red” (intermediate) slope, is restored back to operation. There is also a ski rental shop on the grounds.
The Voras-Kaimaktsalan Ski Center is the ideal destination for non-skiers who just want to enjoy the mountain using the two-seat chairlift. Visitors who just wish to tour the snowcapped mountain slopes can ride the Snow Cat that runs every hour from the central chalet on Saturdays and Sundays, following an incredibly beautiful route suitable for everyone and all ages.
Last but not least, the Snow Bar Motion, accommodating up to 250 persons, offers splendid views. The bar sports a youngish flair, experienced dj’s and video-walls. Extending into the snow with an ice-bar and 100 snow chaise-longues, it offers visitors the opportunity to relax over a drink to the sound of music while taking in the splendid scenery.
A chapel devoted to Prophet Elijah crowns the top of the ski center at an altitude of 2,524 meters, offering breathtaking views. In suitable weather conditions, visitors can see the Thermaic Gulf, Mount Olympus, the ski centers at 3-5 Pigadia and Pisoderi and, naturally, enjoy impressive vistas over Lake Vegoritida and the Agra Wetlands.
Snow tours are available for non-skiers, but also mountain tours (off the ski slopes) on a snowmobile operated and accompanied by experienced staff. Furthermore, there is capability for 12-month athletic activities, day accommodation and well being (air sports, biking, team training and more).
