...Dionysos first entrusted the residents of Attica with the secrets of the cultivation...

According to legend, Dionysos first entrusted the residents of Attica with the secrets for the cultivation of the grapes and the art of winemaking. Surrounded by mountains and sea, the basin of Attica is blessed with a friendly sun and rejuvenating winds that helped the land to roduce wheat, olive oil and wine in abundance, products that became the symbols of the great civilisations born in the region.

The cultivation of grapes and the history of Attica have been travelling companions in their long journey through the centuries. Today, indigenous and choice foreign varieties enjoy a harmonious co-existence. While snow, hail or thunderstorms are a rarity in the region, the scheme vine-earth-climate has found an ideal environment for growth here.

Megara, Spata, Paiania, Coropi, Markopoulo, allini, Pikermi, Anavyssos, Kalyvia, Kouvaras, Stamata, Oinoi and Oinofita remain to this day the most representative wine-producing sites in Attica with their dry vineyards covering an area of approximately 116,800 stremmas.

The region of Attica has a wealth of archaeological sites and tourist attractions very popular with visitors; not far from them, a large number of neighbouring wineries are easily accessible and equally interesting.

The Attican Vineyards Wine Producers Association (EN.O.A.A.) is envisioning the development of a cultural route that will link yesterday with today and through visits to organised wineries will romote this integral part of our culture that we are so much fond of, our wine.
